Life Update
So the long awaited update. Posted by yours truly.. Erin. I couldn't trust Texas to accurately describe our adventures over the last couple of months, as his version would have gone something like this:
MOM IS NEVER HOME ANYMORE AND ALL I DO IS SLEEP IN MY CRATE OR ON THE COUCH AND AM BORED!BORED!BORED!
So. Yes. Updates. Where to start.
July
Pompei gradates as a Guide Dog!!!
August
School started and Rob and I headed off for another semester of college. I knew going in this semester would be difficult, I was going for four hour work days + weekends off; to Work 3 days a week + weekends, and 6+ hours of school 2 days a week.
Prior to this Rob and I had been having some problems. As a puppy walker, I get to find out first hand, that sometimes every puppy does.not fit with every lifestyle/household. Pretty early on I knew this was the case with Rob, but was determined to find a way to fit.him.into.our lives. He was a Midnight baby after all, and I didn't want to loose him.
Two weeks into class, I knew it wasn't going to work. I had NO time, exercise him (which needed to be at least two hours a day), I needed to be able to focus on school, and having a dog that was acting up wasn't helping. So I requested that the Guide Dog Foundation transfer him to another family.
It was THE hardest thing I have EVER done.
Harder even, than giving them up at the end of our year.
But it needed to be done. I was determined, after he went to take a break. No more puppies, just me and the dachshunds until the end of the semester.
September
The DAY I was planning to drive Rob to his last puppy meeting in North Carolina, and hand him off to my Area Coordinator... said person gave me a call. I was a little stunned to find out they were asking me to take ANOTHER puppy. I'll admit I was a little panicky as well.. another puppy? Now? But I don't want another dog! No!
10 hours later, Trump entered our lives.
Trump, was also a Midnight baby, but the complete opposite of Rob. Rob was a GO GO GO! Dog.
If there wasn't action he created some. Definitely the life of the party.
Trump, on the other hand is the dog in the corner with a book. Happy to entertain himself until its time to go. In the coming days, we found out quickly that Trump really, really, REALLY did not like to work.
Trump let us know this, by refusing to walk. Oh he'd walk into a place just fine, but getting him back out again? ...Let's just say you needed to have time on your side. I can't tell you how many classes we arrived to late, simply because Trump would not walk with me.
We tried all sorts of things, in fact as soon as we entered buildings, I'd have him "heel" beside me, with the leash looped around his neck. He would walk continuously like that, but would still refuse to move when he saw us heading towards a class room.
Once inside the class room, he didn't want to just lay down and chill out.. no on several occasions he would offer his opinion of the class, to the teacher. Thankfully all my teachers are "cool" with the dogs, and just talked back to him. He would eventually sleep though...
October
GDF made the decision to career change Trump, and offered him too me as a pet. I and his previous raisers declined, so he's now hanging out with me, waiting for a flight back to New York. I got the email yesterday, that they have sent out a request for volunteers to fly him back. While he needs to go (Lifestyle wise.. I can't have a big dog as a pet), I get a pang every-time I think of actually giving him up. For real, for real.
So now we're waiting, I don't know when we'll get another puppy, maybe the end of this year, maybe next year, maybe next summer (yeah right). But We'll be sure to update that.
In the mean time, Bubbles & Texas have been trucking right along, hanging out, keeping the house free of rodents, enjoying the occasional car ride or walk in the park. I am looking forward to spending a little more 2-1 time with them, over the Holidays. :))
Whew! So that's where we are now! Hopefully we're back for a while. No Promises..cause sometimes "Life Comes at You Fast. :-)

Guess whose Birthday......
Pompei turned 1 years old today! Birthday's with guide dog puppies are always bittersweet. We're happy to celebrate one year of life with our crazy puppies, but sad knowing that our time with them is quickly drawing to a close. Pompei is attempting to make sure I'm not too sorry to see him go, as a teenager, he's testing all his boundaries but we're working on keeping him "walking the straight and narrow."
However, we are very eager to see what he'll do once back at the school! I know someone will ask, so let me go ahead and alay your fears. Yes it will be hard to let him go, but remember he was never "mine" in the first place, and as we're going through our year together, we're doing a LOT of training and preparation of the dogs for this next stage. So the thought of keeping them after all.that.work is disappointing. Believe me, finding out your dog has been, as we call it, career changed (taken out of the program) is a little short of devastating...especially if you had high hopes for his future.
That and, we're typically getting a new puppy after the old one goes, which keeps us very.very. busy. Unfortunately this will be the first time, in four years, that I won't be getting another puppy as my old puppy goes back. Some different situations happened and for now I'm going to wait for Midnight to have puppies, which will be sometime in the spring..if she's pregnant...something we won't know for a little while yet.. So Pompei's turn in will be much harder than my past puppies to be sure.
However, I know my decision was the right one when I stepped outside this morning. O.M.G it was COLD.
Back to Pompei, he got a Deer Antler and a Bone for his birthday, the former of which, Texas promptly stole. Than when he saw Pompei get the bone, he proceeded to stalk him around the house whining.
Aaah Sibling Rivarly.
Whatever will he do without his Big Little Brother?

Theeeeeeerrrre ain't no bugs on meeeee...........
There may be bugs .....
On some of you mugs......
BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
There ain't no bugs on ME!!!
Anymore!
Yah I had some bugs on me. let me tell you THEY HURT! I had to scratch and itch and bit and they wouldn't even leave me alone!! I only got them when I went to stay with my Aunt Libby in NC, while mom was gone away. And she didn't like dat at ALL and gave me and my bed, and her dogs, and the floors and the couch and her car a LOTTA BATHS, so day would go away. I even had that stinky FrontDoor Frontline stuff, but it didn't even work! Den mom came and took me back to TN and there were no more bugs ...untillllll..mom took me wit her and my other Aunties on a boat trip, cept I couldn't go on so mom had too stay with me, but she said that's cause she weren't going to go rafting anyway. Butt anywooofs, the boat places was in the NC place so gues WHAT!?! When I got home I has a lotta of bug dirt allover my butt.
So mom had a freak out and gave me ANOTER BATH!?!?! Butt.. it wasn't too to bad cause then there weren't no more bug dirt on me. Mom guessed dat my frontline stuff was working cause she didn't find any allive bugs. Mom now says dat I can't go to NC for a couple months till all the bugs all die off.
I'm ok with dat.
PEES. My mom probably shoulda used the Advantage stuffs! I'm just sayin.

FurBuster vs. FURminator
If you’re like me, anytime I am in a store that sells products…I will glance down the aisle a time or two, just out of curiosity. One of the things that always caught my eye was the Bamboo FurBuster, it looked like a FURminator, it had photos like it was a FURminator; but is it a good alternative to the FURminator?
I have used the FURminator on multiple occasions and loved it…but didn’t have the money to purchase one myself.I’d go home and Google reviews on both products but either people raved about the FURminator…or they raved about the FURminator. Thanks a lot people.
So I decided to bite the bullet and purchase the FurBuster myself. At $24.99 (give or take a few cents at your local Wal-Mart) I got it home, eagerly unwrapped it and hauled Pompei to the porch. Designed to match the shape of the FURminator, the FurBuster seems impressive with with its removable blade option, saving you the time of purchasing a whole other utensil for multiple dogs.
I have to say I was pretty disappointed with my first results. The blade is quite small and doesn’t get off much hair, in my opinion but feeling optimistic, I decided I probably didn’t remember the FURminators’ results well enough to properly gauge if this was as good. After several uses I still wasn’t getting the results I was hoping for, and decided…since I had a gift card for $60 to CSN.com…why not get a real FURminator?
I have to say, there was a big difference. In the size, weight and blade size; the medium FURminator blade was deeper than the FurBuster, thus allowing it to grab more hair father down, I also noticed the tines on the blade are wider on the FURminator as well.. A few brush strokes and I had a pile of hair on the ground next to us….All in all, I do feel the FURminator is a better purchase if you actually want to remove large amounts of hair, and I feels as if it would hold up longer than FurBuster!
