Sometimes I feel sorry for people who don't have a pet or don't want one. They will just never know how awesome pets are. Regardless of what they are. Sometimes you don't need words, you just need someone, something just be there and love you.
Even if it is just because of the cookies in your pocket. :)
Sometimes you just need to be needed.
Soo mom thought she would save herself sometime, and just link to the video from Facebook, but FAIL if you aren't on Facebook apparently you can't watch it, so her had to upload it too YouTube like she should have done in the firsts place! Get ready to be be-dazzled!
Today, I, Texas The Doxie, will present to yous all a review of a piece of junk, not even worth your money probably a good purchase, maybe, kinda, dog toy.
This toy has a strange name, so its not even worth mentioning no this here bloggy. So um...lets get to the action shall wee? So mom went to the Petstore WITHOUT ME wiht Rob yesterday and the little bugger got to PICK OUT HIS OWN TOYS!?
Am I bitter 'bout that you ask?
No. I am not.
I just STEAL ALL THE TOYS AWAY AND THEN SNAP AT HIM WHEN HE COMES CLOSE! Then mom puts them up and of course its all Rob's fault that we was board and stuff.
Um... where was I?
Oh yeas.
So this thing is a KONG Wobbler, KNOCK OFF. I know, that is prolly a big deteerant but that didn't even stop mom. (she's a cheap scape) so you can get this little "beutee" at your local PetsMart for only $7.97!!
Yeah.
Cheep.
So antiways... mom gets this monstroscity home and tries to open it. Me, being the smartest, most handsomest doggie alive, realized immediately that this produced food..so was all fur mom letting me play wit it. So i ran and around barkign at her ..but her never even put it down for a long time!
She kept tryin' to un twist the thingymajiggy and it wouldn't even come loose! Not even for a whole night!
So mom just stuck some foods in teh little wholes, and let me and Bubbles play with it.
LEmme tell yous how smart I am.
I got that thing done in like. 5 seconds flat!! BLAM!
Don't believe me??
I gots some video PROOF!!!!!
Anyway mom says its not a great toy cause the plastic is cheeps, and if Rob gotta ahold of it he would tear it up in like two seconds, cause he thinks you has to bite it to get the food out, not hit it with your feets.
He's a dumb bunny.
So if you want a toy like dis, spend the money and get a really KONG WOBBLER!
So all day yesterday I keep trying to make Rob play wit me, cause I mean I'm awesome and why wouldn't any pup not want to play with moi?? ITS A RHETORICAL QUESTION PEOPLE.
Anywoofs...
Mom says that I scared Rob when i was barkin in his face, but she doesn't even know that I was just TELLING him I wanted to play cause he WASn'T GETting IT otherwise! Butt today he decided that I was ok and we had a fun time. I thinK i will like this one after all.
Oh yeah and mom even bought us some more treats and Nyla bones from the Doggy store today! ...Except that Rob wanted my bone and I didn't want him to have my bone, so we had to growl at each other for a bit until he went and laid down. Mom thought it was funny that he had enough gumption to growl back at me. I don't share her views.
I wasn't even borned yet and mom was only 12 when it happened. She didn't even know it happened cause she was hiking with a group up the mountain. But when the got back her mom was crying and stuffs and they didn't even know what had happened. All she knowed was somethin bad had happened and it filled her with lots of scaredness. And then they saw all the pictures in the paper and on the internet, and she was super scared. Especially cause those metal birds stopped flying around for a while.
Mom said there was a lots of brave people and service dogs (sorta like me cept they did a different job) and here is a video about them.
Here's to hoping this will become a weekly feature around here!
Anyway I have to admit that there are times I get into a rut, in my dog training; Especially with the dogs that I have permanently or am raising for a year. When I worked with Wilderwood Service Dogs,I was bringing in a new dog monthly which kept me on my toes constantly. I was doing everything from re-teaching basic commands, potty training, loose leash walking to the "fun" commands, such as teaching them to close doors and etc..
However with the Guide Dog Foundation, we have a list of basic commands we teach them, and that's all. At 3 months Pompeiihad 75% of those commands down, and now I knows all of them. So there is no "fun" per se in running through his commands, nothing to mix it up, or challenge him.Bubbles is confident with her "comes", "go potty", "lets eat", and "sit" commands and has no use for doing actual WORK for her food.Texason the other hand lloooveeeeessssssss training. Except that his mom has run out of ideas..had run out of ideas. However havingZipperhas cranked up my creative training juices and we're pulling out the ol" clicker and dusting it off.
Why Food or Clicker Train?
Why do I use a clicker you ask? Well all it does is MARK the BEHAVIOR (sit, down, stay, etc) we want the dog to do, lets him/her know it was GOOD and there is a reward coming. I use the clicker to teach the dog the behavior and then fade it out quickly once the dog knows the cue word.
I know many people want to shy away from clicker/food training due to the fact: "I don't want to have to carry treats around allll the time."Who said you did? Once the dog has the behavior down pat, we do what we call random rewards. You call the dog, they come. you pay them with a treat.
Next time, you call your dog, you pay them with praise, the next time with a toy, the next time with a treat. We all know this works extremely well for dogs, because once they get something good for a certain action, they will always TRY and see if it will work again. (Hence why pulling, garbage digging, counter surfing are such hard behaviors to break.)
Here's how I see. Raise your hand if you would continue to go to work, if your boss only paid you the first three weeks of your time, and then never paid you again. Yet this is what a lot of people are expecting out their dogs...
We introduced Zip to the clicker last week and she's loves it. Next we're working on default leave its. Here it is demonstrated by a favorite trainer of mine, and then we'll do our best to mimic it.
Our Turn! I think we got the jist of it...Please ignore the random commentary!
Next Up - Leave it On Cue...or the name game, cause she really doesn't know her name....
Mom would like to say thank you to the Munchkin Memoirs for this cool award! She is super lazy when it comes to posting these things!! But that's why I'm here to make sure stuff like this gets done!!
"The only rule for this award is that to accept it, display it proudly on your blog for all the blog world to see your greatness and/or pass it on to other bloggers as you see fit..." We love all of our blog readers but we'll just nominate a few! :)
Mom took Ira out to Target today, (one of her favorite stores..) and they came home with a bunch of goodies!! Since Ira Loooovessssss to chew, mom wanted to get her some different things to keep her mind busy, even letting her pick out her own toy, and carry it to the front....well as far as she could.
Ira picked out the Air squeaky thing....*figures* and mom got a the green bottle thingy, and another stuffed toy, that didn't have any stuffing OR a SQUEAKER?!? How Un-Cool is that? But Ira likes it cause the tail sounds like crinkly paper, and I like it cause she likes it.
I like the green thing cause treats come out of it if you hit it long enough; Ira does't know how to me patience with it and gets mad fast.
Her loss is my gain!!! :)
We'll I'm off to go play with my new toys and try to stay cool!!Happy Labor Day!!! (again!)
Texas would love to do something like this! These were hilarious, Bubbles would have been one of the ones staring at their humans if is they were crazy.
I've never had a puppy and this many dogs at the same time! I have a 9-month-old Golden Retriever, a 9 month-old Dachshund, a 9- year-old Dachshund (well she will be later on) and a 9 week-old Lab.
Since Jordan has more dogs to play with, she has to go potty a lot more frequently than my other puppies have. I've spent most of my day running outside every 10 minutes, and cleaning. But I'm having fun :D I miss this!
While Miss Jordan may seem like a sweet, laid back little puppy, but boy is she fiesty!!! She may walk like a drunken sailor, but she is keeping Texas on his toes!!!
Apparently I started a trend at my job; just a couple of weeks after I brought Texas home, my co-worker shows up to work saying that she just bought a red, long haired miniature dachshund!! We were all very excited for her arrival! And now that she has had her second set of shots, she is free to play at daycare!! Texas didn't know what to think of a dog so tiny, and was backing away from her, but he warmed up and they were soon tearing around the office. As fast as a pup can tear, with only 3 inch legs, LOL!
Her name is Penny and she is 8-weeks-old.
I think they.....love...each other. ::big grin::
